Unfortunately this is the final Pretentious Makes Perfect. It has been a fun time and independent media will never die! Except for when individual shows collapse on themselves. So what better way to celebrate the burning of our corpses than an interview with a comedian who likes wrestling and a dude who writes for an online wrestling website!
Topics covered include:
Hulk Hogan in TNA, wanting to write jokes for Roddy Piper, Brendon combining heel psychology with his early standup, getting into wrestling as kids, getting hit on by Pipers daughter, Brendons gimmick idea in the 80s, being embarrassed by the current product, Aarons take on his working in the internet wrestling community, smarks acting like spoilt brats, Wrestlemania 26, womens wrestling and jobbers, ECW, heckling The Great Khali, UFC, how The Undertaker should retire and in the true spirit of The Attitude Era, no less than two random, unexplained run ins that contribute nothing but confusion to the interview (thank you Mike McShane and Felicty Ward!)
Thanks again. Its been real.
And don’t forget to facebook Left And Correct!

Its early Monday morning although it should be Saturday! Sean has gone missing (again!) Its raining in Melbourne! And after 20 minutes of yammering, Evan brings out Paul Provenza for which to talk with!
Paul talks about growing up in The Bronx, early experiences of racism, his show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival ‘Talk of the Fest’ which was built around several bait-and-switches, walking audience members for free into his shows, keeping his creative vision for his TV show on Showtime ‘The Green Room’, meeting John Safran, explanations of his book ‘The Sataristas’, being happy with his work, 20 minutes of atheist ramblings and the power of satire.
Then he pimps his show at the Worlds Funniest Island, which is several weeks late and unfortunately the whole thing was cancelled anyway. Ooops!

Sean yammers his gums about UK TV Series Sherlock, Evan yammers his gums about US TV Series Sons of Anarchy which leads to a readout of a scene from the Sons of Anarchy Script and some online reviews from neo nazis. Made sense at the time for sure.
Also covered in todays episode is the false threat bollocks that is home-grown jihadists, WikiLeaks demonstrating how America is resposible for hundreds of thousands of war crimes, Labors half-arsed attempt to placate the gay community, new reports that seem to suggest that we’re killing the planet, Radiohead and UK Tory Leader David Cameron joining forces to literally do nothing for charity, religious and superstitious bollocks in France sends 11 people out of a window running from ‘the devil’ which was actually a naked black man feeding his crying child, the death by “medical causes” of an 18 year old at the Ashley Youth Detention Centre, some old dude with a beard trying to copyright yoga, information of new interviews coming up (Brendon Burns and Aaron Wood talking about pro wrestling! Paul Provenza talking about politics and atheism! Anna Baltzer talking about Palestine! Fiona Patten talking about the Australian Sex Party!)
And of course the dude who threw the shoes at John Howard. None of this in order, of course.

Dr Brown is a character played by American dude Phil Burgers, relying on surrealism, so we discussed the joys of performing at a majorly stand up oriented comedy festival without making a sound, putting breakfast spreads on audience members heads (tip: use Nutella, not Marmite), walking the fine line between funny and invasive asshole, having to remove people from the gig, comparing audiences to Melbourne, Edinburgh and Prague, praise from his fans (live! During the podcast! Not a plant!) taking risks on stage, using peoples homophobia as a comedy device, Hans Teeuwen worship, other comedy inspirations, keeping control of a gig, joining the performance world relatively later than he wanted to due to years of fear, Evan yammers his gums about France and then we talk about other things I havent written down!
We kept getting distracted, talking about language, and backpacking
And of course Evan and Sean yammer their gums about vagina politics, the truth that The Goverment doesnt want you to know about Elvis Presley and Fred Astaire and some bullshit tech issues that probably should have been left on the cutting room floor.

Its our cheapest gem of a show yet! Sean is MIA! Evan tries to handle the opening alone without pissing off his housemates at 1 in the moring! Luckily, wonderful UK stand up comic Robin Ince stops by to talk about funny things and hold the show on his shoulders for a good hour or so.
Mentioned in said interview is a discussion involving what its like having his jokes stolen whilst in Australia, Evan tells a tale of trying to see Adam Hills but accidentally stumbling into Robin Ince’s show, moving from The Assembly Rooms to The Free Fringe, comedians expectations coming to Edinburgh that end up getting lost in the shuffle, Tim Minchin fandom, The Beatles, his brilliant son Archer, Family First Party (again), creationist museums, avoiding video games due to having an addictive personality, Texan philosophers, Evans theories on where Nirvana would have gone next if Kurt Cobain had lived (Robin thinks Evan is quite negative), whether Johnny Cash’s death prevented a tirade of right wing Republicanism in his music, Robins Book Bag of Death, becoming an atheist (which leads to God sending His Most Vengeful Seagulls), Evans story of how he became an atheist that he has told the podcast at least 9 times, hating and then eventually loving the work of James Randi, views on psychics-for-profit and eventual plans to visit Australia (hint: if you want it to happen, harass the comedy festival organisers). All this and more poorly worded question/statements as read from a tattered note pad!

Officer Bubbles, (aka Const. Adam Josephs the Canadian policeman who theatened to a arrest peaceful protester for blowing bubbles at the Toronto G20 Protests) sues Youtube for people making fun of his outrageous ego, some dude goes on a rant about hipsters on the internet and Evan & Sean question how much time he has on his hands, Evan reveals that he has New Kids On The Block on vinyl, Sean somehow links jazz and punk because they both involve inprov, apparently, why lazy hipsters are much better than violent thuggish morons, UNHCR released a report stating that the Israeli Defence Force had shot 5 civilians execution style on the Gaza Floatilla, a video of a unicorn on youtube turns out to be, shock horror, a hoax, Evan and Sean debate weather or not awesome Melbourne band The Parking Lot Experiments hates them or not, Mary McKillop can cure cancer on a whim but apparently ignores genocide, why your filthy naked body is illegal (because nudity can lead to a world without shame, which, of course, is dangerous), controversial US charity pays for drug addicts to undergo vasectomies (aka incentive based eugenics) and then Sean and Evan get angry at people who are against gay adoption.
Then Evan rails on Sean for not having ID, so he cant come with him to visit Leela. Expect this to be a weekly occurrence until Sean gets his ID or Leela gets released!
UPDATE: The lawsuit by Officer Bubbles has, dare I say, popped in his face! Due to the press, all the Cartoon Adventures of Officer Bubbles have been re-released online, garnering 10s of thousands of views in days! In a show of civil disobedience and solidarity with the people sued for the original comments, please view all the videos and comments yourself! Please remember that laughing in the face of tyranny is far more effective than trolling and threats of violence!

Dette har blitt oversatt fra internett! Dag Sørås, infamous Norwegian stand up comic joins the show today to discuss how it felt opening for Doug Stanhope and receiving his constructive criticism, his shitty comedy DVD that’ll never see the light of English subtitles, cancelling a show in Edinburgh due to small crowd numbers, only to walk across the road to see legendary Aussie comic Nick Sun performing for an even smaller crowd, why comedy is like pro wrestling, Norwegian Nationalism, growing up religious, his wonderful son, his fears of passing on his mental illness to his kin, Israel/Palestine, his country maybe owning Greenland, Euthanasia vs The Slow Torture Killing of Old People, black metal fascists and more!

Triple header! 3 comics, various deep discussions and Sean and Evan squabbling over something petty.
Evans joins Gordon Southern and ends up discussing immigration and the concept of borders, British imperialism, right wing political parties, living out of a suitcase, student sharehouses and their respective smells, Wendy Francis the Qld Family First party, living with Steve Hughes for a month, the infamous Edinburgh comedy room The Tron, gigging in rural New South Wales, wanting to gig in rural Victoria, dealing with the busyness of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the unpredictable weather.
Next is Asher Treleaven. Thrill as Evan stumbes over his notes like a junkie at Centrelink on Job Diary Day! Struggling to pronounce his second name, they discuss keeping a theme for his shows, his origins as a Carny, street performing, moving away from that area of performing, homophobia in Australia, the hypocrisy of good Christian pro-life anti-gay politican Iris Robinson (who cheated on her husband with a 19 year old dude, laundered political money to his new business, blackmailed it from him and laundered it through her Church while gay bashing), Wendy Francis the Qld Family First party (seems to come up a lot), a hilarious tale of an age controversy in the audience during the show I saw, growing up a stoner in Byron Bay, and then Evan tells a tale of his nana being a horny old goat reading Mills & Boon novels till the day she died.
Lastly is Ivor Dembina. Evan talks with him about Israel and Palestine, and Ivor talks of growing up in a zionist household as a liberal atheist jew. Just listen. We don’t want to give anything away.

Its all going down today! Gitmo trial on ice because apparently information obtained by torturing a dude is morally wrong because you’re torturing an innocent person, or functionally retarded because you allow a guilty man to walk free on a technicality! A new study shows that right wing ideals and viewpoints are good for old peoples self esteem, which leads Evan and Sean to justify a new society in which everyone over 40 is killed. A museum old old haunted shit in New Zealand has come under fire from anyone who’s not a cunt for claiming that pregnant and mestruating women shouldn’t visit the centre. Evan and Sean then yammer about traditions of things, and how if they suck they should be chopped off like a gangrenous limb. The Chilean miners are free! But the real question is, which version of Christian God do we thank? 3 sub genres of Jesus have an argument to see who can be the stupidest person standing outside a collapsed mine without contributing sweet fuck all. A 34 year old Cradle of Filth fan has been threatened with 6 months in prison for wearing a shirt that claims Jesus is a Cunt. Surely bring a fan of such shite music is punishment enough? Oh and there is that whole ‘free society’ thing to worry about too.
And then Sean finishes off the show (and by that I mean talks for an hour and a half) about the Melbourne Fringe Festival, and reads a little out of the Fringe Hub guide (which is like the Fringe’s Fringe and it is fucking hilarious)
All that plus comedy clips from Gordon Southern(UK) and Dag Sørås(NORWAY) who are upcoming guests on next weekends shows.
Anyone wanna come see Leela with me yet?

Leela Krishna is a 20 year old male who is currently in Maribyrnong Detention Centre. He’ll be 21 in a few weeks. His crime? Being Tamil and gay in Sri Lanka and coming to Australia to seek asylum.
The Australian Goverment has accepted that he is a refugee, however he is still locked up due to “security checks” which have taken months with no end in clear sight. He has been bullied, attacked, sexually harassed and has attempted suicide several times while the paperwork gets pushed around a desk in circles not going anywhere like a stubborn child with a plate full of vegetables.
First, we talk to Rachel Evans, a human rights activist based in Sydney who’s been working with Leela. She tells his story.
Then Evan attempts to visit Leela with his two mates Spencer and Josh, where he is promptly denied entrance due to his name being on some blacklist. They wouldn’t tell him where they got his name or how he could remove his name from the list. We suspect it is because he was invited via facebook to a protest outside Maribyrnong Detention Centre that got rough, resulting in the blanket ban of many activists.
And then we talk with Rosalie Scolari, who has been Leelas closest link to the outside world since he was moved with little warning from Sydney to Melbourne because the movement in Sydney got too big for poor little Serco to handle.
So listen to this interview, then come to Maribyrnong Detention Centre with Evan to meet Leela. Of course Evan can’t get in but he is very happy to stand in the reception area with a shit-eating grin on his face because it gets under the skin of a machine that profits from putting refugees in cages for as long as possible.
